You are cordially invited to attend the opening and performance of the Dutch artist Pedro Bakker at the Black Sesame Space. In this solo-exhibition he will show 3 new drawings of his series Mapping Beauty and a second handscroll Third Sister You he made during his winter residency at IFP. The first handscroll Gay Love, which he drew during his summer residency at IFP, is on display in the Fries Museum (NL) now. Recently Bakker’s work is awarded with the GERRIT BENNER 2017 Prize, which is an important Frisian prize and the Fries Museum shows an overview of his work which he made in the recent three years, when he stayed in China for a longer period of time.
The new drawings are part of his long term project New Illusions of love. Pedro Bakker gets his inspiration from the classical and famous Chinese novel The Dream of the Red Chamber, which is about old and tragic illusions of love. A more exciting inspiration is Beijing Nightlife nowadays and Bakker found in the Temple Bar his model Pink. He wrote a song A Blink of Pink which is about his new illusion of Beijing Nightlife. He will perform this song on the opening of his show at Black Sesame Space, Sunday December the 10th, 4 pm.
