IFP has welcomed Swedish, Amsterdam-based artist Charlott Markus to Beijing. Trained as a photographer in Sweden, Charlott Markus went on to study at the Photography Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and has since been exhibited in Holland, Russia, United States, Sweden and Switzerland. She is a part of POC Project, network for contemporary images.
Charlott frequently works with Still Life photography where she weaves personal narratives and their links to objects and materials, often using textiles as a complex carrier of meanings, memories and sensibilities. During her time in Beijing, Charlott will turn back to the memories of her childhood, watching Chinese films from directors such as Zhang Yimou in which fabric was used as a silent agent what could not be said or done in real.
The residency of Charlott Markus is supported by Mondriaan Funds
