BODIES AT WORK

You are cordially invited to the Institute for Provocation on Saturday September 7 for a performative introduction of Bodies At Work, a collaborative project on art and labour.

Bodies At Work is the title of the collaborative project by artist Maja Bekan and curator Angela Serino, in residence at IFP until the end of this year. The project consists of two primary elements: Maja Bekan's The Ultimate Flexible Work Station</em>, initially conceived for the van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven (NL) in 2011 and now adapted for Beijing. Parallel with the work station, there will also be a series of public group discussions on the topic of art and labour.

For the launch of the joint project this Saturday, we will gather at 4pm in the courtyard at IFP for a collective reading of the text “She now works flexible…” by B.Kuster, I.Lorey, M.von Osten and K.Reichard. This will be followed by a presentation of the ideas inspiring the project Bodies at Work and the coming programme. It will be also the occasion to see the newly finished “The Ultimate Flexible Work Station” inside the IFP Studio. After its first edition, Maja Bekan has now created a new version of this fully equipped workstation. For more information, please see the next news item.

The afternoon will end with the film screening of “A New Product” by German artist Harun Farocki, a compelling and problematic portray of the current changes in the world of the corporate business.

About the film:

“A New Product” by Harun Farocki, 36 min, Germany, 2012.

Over the period of one year Harun Farocki joined the meetings of the Quickborner Team, a business consultancy in Hamburg, as they developed a new consultancy product. The QT specializes in organizational building planning and property management (meaning the design of workspaces, offices and social zones). Farocki filmed the QT’s internal meetings, as well as meetings with clients. The resulting documentation/ film focuses on the practice of future forecasting in commercial consultation at a time of upheaval, wherein consultancy is itself examining the procedures of decision-making that constitute corporate branding.
